| Our Constitution
Your Oxford Constitution Committee has been reviewing our 2002 Constitution
over the past 15 months.
Although not all that exciting for most people, a constitution acts as
the principal guide in the operation of
our organization. From time to
time it is necessary to make amendments to ensure that we are in tune
with
the Provincial Constitution, that our Constitution reflects what
we are currently doing and that general
housekeeping of our wording
makes intent clearer.
At the Annual Meeting in the Fall of 2009, the following amendments
will be proposed:
1. EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
3.04 Add “a quorum shall be a simple majority”
2. Removal From Office
4.02 (c) Add “Such leave shall be reviewed every 6 months”
3. Duties Of The Executive
5.01 Add (h) “Establishing a budget prior to the beginning of the fiscal
year”
4. VICE PRESIDENTS
5.05 The Second Vice President shall chair
5.05 (c) Replace “The Phone Network” with “Out of
County Membership
Contact Committee”
5. SECRETARY
5.06 The Secretary shall
5.06 (d) delete “Submit the Annual District Report to the Provincial
Director”
6. TREASURER
5.07 The Treasurer shall
5.07 (c) Add “audited” to now read “submit audited
financial reports to the Provincial Director, as
required.”
7. STANDING COMMITTEES
7.03 Revise to read “Standing committees will normally include
the following:
a Pension Concerns
b Constitution
c Public Relations
d Health Benefits
e Goodwill and Phone Network
f Membership
g Website
h Political Action
i Travel
j ERO(French)
k Newsletter
l Service To Others
m Social
n Recruitment

These are the amendments that will be proposed at the Annual Meeting
in the Fall of 2009.
In accordance with Article 8.01 of our Constitution “This Constitution
may be amended by the consent of two-thirds of the eligible members of
District 37 present at a General Meeting, provided that notice has been
sent to members prior to the Meeting”
This Newsletter acts as the notice required under Article 8.01. If any
member has concerns about the proposed amendments, please feel free to
contact any Constitution Committee Member. The Committee and the Executive
have worked diligently to ensure that our District 37 (Oxford) Constitution
continues to serve in the best interests of our members.
The Committee members are Mary Anne Silverthorn, Barry Tate, Glen Mc
Donald, Bill Carrothers, Harry Lipsit and Dave Minielly(chair)
